- ½ cup113 gUnsalted buttermelted and slightly cooled
- 2 large100 gEggsroom temperature
- ½ cup120 gPlain yogurt, low-fatroom temperature
- 2 tsp8 gVanilla extract
- 1⅛ tsp5 gBaking soda
- ¾ tsp4 gBaking powder
- ½ tsp3 gSalt
- ¼ cup25 gUnsweetened cocoa powder
- 1⅛ tsp3 gGround cinnamon
- ½ cup80 gSemisweet chocolate chipsdivided
Steps
- Heat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch pan and line the bottom with parchment.
- Make the cocoa filling first: in a small bowl, stir together the unsweetened cocoa powder, the cinnamon and half of the granulated sugar until no lumps remain. Set the cocoa filling aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt to make the flour mixture.
- In a large bowl, whisk the mashed banana, the brown sugar and the remaining half of the granulated sugar. Whisk in the melted butter, then the eggs one at a time, then the yogurt and vanilla until smooth.
- Fold the flour mixture into the banana mixture with a spatula just until no dry streaks remain; do not overmix.
- Spread half of the batter in the pan. Sprinkle the cocoa filling evenly over it, then scatter half of the chocolate chips on top.
- Dollop the remaining half of the batter over the filling and gently spread to cover. Run a knife through in a few loose S-shapes to ribbon the cocoa filling, then scatter the remaining half of the chocolate chips over the top.
- Bake 32 to 38 minutes, until golden and a toothpick in the center comes out clean of wet batter (melted chocolate is fine).
- Cool the cake in the pan on a rack for at least 1 hour, then cut into 12 slices.
