Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9-by-9-inch pan with a little of the melted butter and line it with parchment.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon to make the flour mixture.
  3. In a large bowl, mash the banana until mostly smooth. Whisk in the granulated sugar and the brown sugar, then the rest of the melted butter, the egg, the buttermilk and the vanilla until blended.
  4. Fold the flour mixture into the banana mixture just until no dry streaks remain.
  5. Fold three-quarters of the chocolate chips into the batter. Spread the batter in the pan and scatter the remaining quarter of the chocolate chips over the top.
  6. Bake 35 to 40 minutes, until golden and a toothpick in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool the cake in the pan on a rack for about 1 hour, until completely cool.
  8. Make the glaze: in a small bowl, whisk the powdered sugar, the unsweetened cocoa powder and the milk until smooth and pourable.
  9. Drizzle the cocoa glaze over the cooled cake, let it set for 10 minutes, then cut into 12 slices.
