- 3 tbsp40 gGranulated sugar
- 2 large100 gEggsroom temperature
- 2 tsp8 gVanilla extract
- 1⅓ cups170 gAll-purpose flour
- ¾ tsp3 gBaking powder
- ½ tsp3 gSalt
- ½ tsp1 gGround cinnamon
- ¾ cup140 gSemisweet chocolate chips
- ½ tsp2 gCanola oilfor greasing the pan
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8-inch pan with the canola oil and line it with parchment, leaving an overhang.
- Spread the pecans on a small baking sheet and toast in the oven for 6 to 8 minutes until fragrant; set aside to cool.
- Melt the butter in a light-colored saucepan over medium heat, swirling, until it foams and turns golden brown with toasty-smelling flecks, 5 to 7 minutes. Pour it into a large bowl, scraping in the browned bits, and cool 10 minutes.
- Whisk the brown sugar and the granulated sugar into the browned butter until glossy.
- Whisk the egg and vanilla into the sugar mixture until thick and smooth, about 1 minute.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon together.
- Fold the flour mixture into the butter mixture just until no dry streaks remain.
- Fold in the toasted pecans and three-quarters of the chocolate chips.
- Spread the batter in the prepared pan and scatter the remaining one-quarter of the chocolate chips over the top.
- Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until the top is golden and crackly and a toothpick in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs, not wet batter.
- Cool in the pan on a rack for at least 1 hour, then lift out by the parchment and cut into 12 bars.
