- ½ cup115 gUnsalted buttermelted and slightly cooled
- ¾ cup packed180 gBrown sugarpacked
- 2 tbsp25 gGranulated sugar
- 2 large100 gEggsat room temperature
- 2 tsp8 gVanilla extract
- 1¼ cups160 gAll-purpose flour
- ¾ tsp3 gBaking powder
- ¼ tsp2 gSalt
- ¼ cup20 gUnsweetened cocoa powdersifted
- 1 tbsp (15 ml)15 gMilk, 2%
- ½ cup80 gSemisweet chocolate chips
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8-inch square pan with parchment, leaving an overhang.
- Spread the walnuts on a small baking sheet and toast in the oven for 7–8 minutes until fragrant; let cool.
- In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter with the brown sugar and the granulated sugar until glossy, about 1 minute.
- Whisk in the eggs one at a time, then the vanilla, until smooth and slightly thickened.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking powder and salt, then fold this flour mixture into the butter mixture just until no dry streaks remain.
- Scoop about one third of the batter into a medium bowl. Stir the unsweetened cocoa powder and the milk into this smaller portion to make a smooth chocolate batter.
- Fold the toasted walnuts and the chocolate chips into the remaining two thirds of plain blondie batter.
- Spread the walnut blondie batter evenly in the pan. Dollop the chocolate batter over the top in spoonfuls, then drag a butter knife through in figure-eights to marble, without fully mixing.
- Bake for 26–30 minutes, until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool completely in the pan on a rack, about 1 hour, then lift out with the parchment and cut into 12 bars.
